Miss Broadway Hates Cats
Today, I will be talking, no, ranting about a musical many people have come to love: Cats. The musical Cats is written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, arguably one of the best composers to ever grace Broadway. He's written well-known musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, School of Rock, and Sunset Boulevard. He's is a genius but with Cats, he absolutely missed the ticket. This show is glorified Halloween and dress-up for grown-ups. I do not understand what is so incredibly mesmerizing about watching grown men and women prancing around in spandex and fur. They are pretending to be animals that we humans keep in close affection. There is a difference between being a cat lover and being an obsessed, confused, differing person of society. I avoid the words "freak" and "weirdo" because those are words that have been assigned to theatre kids and have deeply affected my life and the lives of my friends. Getting back to the topic at hand, I cannot see what is appealing and worth obsessing over with Cats. Maybe it's because I was never really a cat person but I still fail to understand the deep devotion certain members of the theatre community have with the show.
